Felt the need to get something off my chest, so I whipped up this Landwhale making a statement.
So often I see people talking about how portraying/including fat people in any kind of positive way is “promoting obesity”.
This pisses me off and upsets me on a number of levels, but everything else aside…
Everyone deserves to see themselves portrayed as a whole person. People who are loved, people who are beautiful, people who have sex and relationships and hopes and dreams and feelings.
And that includes people who are fat.
We need more fat models. We need more fat characters who are actual people - not just jokes, or characters where the whole focus is their fatness as a moral failing.
These things do not promote anything but people feeling like they can be seen and respected and loved as people.
Regardless of a person’s health or size - which is NONE of anyone’s business except theirs, everyone deserves to feel like its okay that they exist.
